& Public Art

Wildrice Studio is shared by Celia and Keith Rice-Jones. The work ranges from Celia's thrown and soft clay manipulation to Keith's formal and architectural structures. In addition, other work, major projects and commissions are often jointly inspired and constructed.

While some of Keith's work hints at esoteric rituals, Celia's work traces roots to the real rituals of everyday domestic activity. There are influences from many cultures and work ranges from the humble and practical to sculptural statement; from cups and bowls to large house and garden sculptures. The sculptures range from figurative gargoyles to bold architectural geometry and sensual abstract organic forms equally space definers in either the home or garden.

Our stoneware and porcelain clays are very dense and strong fired at close to white heat in our 60 cubic ft. gas kiln, making food vessels with leadless glazes more than a match for dishwashers and microwave ovens. Garden pieces and sculptures can stand outside throughout winter.

Firing at this temperature demands a real discipline; the pots glow with their own heat on the point of going soft. The fire will find any flaw but sometimes gives unexpected magic.

Visitors are always welcome and work from the studio is available at any time by appointment.
