Sculpture - Organic Carvings

This latest work was finally launched in 2006 whilst at a Residency in Australia (see Working/Exhibiting Overseas-"Mittagong Australia") from maquettes that had been on the studio shelf for a number of years!

Essentially I see the work rooted in carving - they begin as small carved maquettes, are hand-built to finished size and the final form & surface is abraded like carving.  The work refers to the abstractions of Henry Moore, an early hero, and the bio-morphic forms of Jean Arp.

All the pieces from my 2006 Australian Residency are now in collections.  I am working on a new series in Canada using a pinching technique that builds the form in small accretions, much like a mud wasp.  The process is an interesting counterpoint to slab building.  The first piece, "The Three Faces of Eve" is already in a collection and I have 2 new pieces from the kiln (December, 2008).
